Turmeric, the yellow powder used in many indian dishes, can also be beneficial and treat certain skin conditions when mixed with other beneficial ingredients. Turmeric is also well-known for it's anti-inflammatory properties because of its volatile oil and its yellowish orange pigment, which is called curcumin. Curcumin, a phytonutrient, which contains anti-inflammatory abilities that have been shown to be comparable to many drugs on the market today, but contrary to drugs, curcumin produces no toxicity.

Indian brides have long used turmeric body scrubs and face masks to purify and cleanse their bodies as well as provide a healthy glow by brightening their skin right before their weddings.

How can I use turmeric for glowing skin? This turmeric and honey face mask is definitely one option, and it’s a really good one.

Turmeric, a herb used as a main ingredient in curry, can benefit your skin as a home remedy for acne, eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, dark spots, and wrinkles.

DIY Turmeric Brightening Mask Home Recipe

  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey (ideally also local and organic)
  • ½ teaspoon milk or yogurt
  • [optional] 1 drop lemon essential oil or fresh lemon juice for additional skin brightening

Turmeric Powder - Antibacterial, brightening

Yogurt - Brightening and exfoliating properties (Contains Lactic acid)

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) - Malic Acid which is a great exfoliate

Honey - Moisturizing and anti-inflammatory

Lemon - Brightening properties (Natural Vitamin C)

Preparation:

 

  1. In a small bowl or jar, mix the turmeric powder with the apple cider vinegar, honey, milk or yogurt, and optional lemon. Try to get a consistency that will stick to your face. Be careful not to make it too thin as it may drip.
  2. Ensure you have a clean face or treatment area 
  3. Apply the mask carefully avoiding your eyes.
  4. Allow the mask sit on your face for 15–20 minutes.
  5. Rinse with warm water.
  6. If you have any leftover, you can cover and leave in the fridge for your next application.
  7. Apply twice a week for best results.

** Remember to do a test patch to check for any possible allergies.

** This is a great DIY home mask and can be used on the underarm area as well for brighter skin.
